I want to say hey to all the people who have been waiting for me to come back to my web site... I have been busy working, and recovering, and still am not entirely on my feet. I have been ill, and am feeling better every day.

David Kalish and I have made a new recording, made over the past 10 or 12 weeks. We are going to start playing it for people in February, and the first few people who have heard it have been wildly encouraging.

It looks like it will contain two or three re recordings of older material. Horses, Saturday Afternoons will probably make the cut. The rest of the music is all new, some written during the recording, some older and never recorded. The music is powerful, r&b, soul, and rootsy blues, I guess. I can't really describe what I create.

I plan to make some music available to the people who so generously sent money for the cd last year, I plan to make available a song or two to people attending the live shows at Largo , starting this Valentine's Day.

So welcome back, and I hope to see you around. We are redesigning the site over the next few months, but hope to keep up afew pages we can keep current while we are reamaking the site. Send me any suggestions you have, I am not on the internet that much any more, so I need to hear all the ideas you would like to see on the RLJ stie.

Adios.

Rickie Lee Jones

Wow Rickie! Great to hear that you are back in the studio, and good to hear that you are feeling better too! I'm excited about the concerts, but because I live in Toronto, won't be able to make the February shows. Be sure to come back to Toronto again with the gang, like you did with that AMAZING show when you were touring Sermon.
Peace,
Del

Dear Rickie, my daughters (both 7 years old) love your flying cowboys album. We've been listening to it non-stop in the car for the past 2 weeks. Thank you for sharing your talent and I look forward to introducing more of you music to them.

Hello lady....30 years, wow. I've found you and left you so many times in those thirty years, I tend to lose count. But I always come back, stronger than before. For the past few years, you've become solidly the star of my music universe. I'm a painter, former hippie, retired teacher, and your music haunts my daily existence. Next time you're in Oklahoma City, stop by, I'll cook you a splatter burger!

It is so good to hear from you and I feel like we are sort of approaching the 30th anniversary of the first album and then of the first appearance on SNL, I think April 7 1979 . . . the site, it seems like it may have pages that aren't linked to anymore [or I remember something like that] and that sometimes it is not as up to date as it could be about appearances . . . sometimes the spelling of things is a bit casual rather than correct but that can be such a subjective thing as far as how important something like that is, for example I don't care that much to comb my hair but someone is trying to get me to re-examine that . . . maybe it isn't even important at all on the spelling . . . I like the site but maybe it's really more about whether you yourself like it . . . I think one of your key attibutes is what seems like a certain fidelity to and service to what your heart or muse tells you, so maybe what I think might be interesting but the key thing is for you to listen to your own heart . . . there are many wonderful pictures and I like the writings and having the lyrics . . . I maybe sometimes hear you on a non-verbal level and then on some things only momentarily hear the specific lyric . . . it's maybe nice to be able to go look

Hope you can tour sometime soon, although it is weird, I saw you four times in 2007, [don't know if you remember talking with me on the sidewalk by Tipitina's but I told you among other things how I believe you are one of the three great voices of our time, better than the other two and with little or no competition across time the best I can figure] and yet money has changed . . . it can turn on a dime, but money seems a much harder thing than it once was . . . I hope if you go on tour you will be able to be somewhere nearby . . . on the street where we live . . .

If I found a winning lottery ticket, I would fund a 30th anniversary tour! I mean that!

Thank you for so very much!

Rickie, I'm incredibly excited about seeing you live at Largo. I saw you on stage at Bimbo's in SF for the New Yorker interview a few years back. It was me, who during the Q and A paid you a brief homage that, well, resulted in your crying, with a bit of warm bowl of porridge on a cold, cold day kind of joy. At last I hope it was some kind of positive feeling! They ended the Q and A there and then and you said good night to us all. I never got to ask the question and frankly, can't even remember what it was! Maybe you don't remember that night. But I will remember it for the rest of my life! See you on Feb 14!

Over the years, I have seen a lot of artists here in L.A.,no one else but you Ricki, projects this radiant love out to the audience. I know you are a Christian, and I am not, but seeing and listening to you on stage is my church. Very emotional for me, your Largo Valentines Day show, as you give your all every time. Stop smoking sweetheart, don't mess up that beautiful instrument, your Stradavarius. All my love.

My Oh My, Rickie... I just got back from LA and our wonderful Valentine's Day rendezvous with you.. First, I just want to say that having seen you many times, this was my favorite of all; you, all up and animated, tap-dancing, sharing intimate details, and pouring your heart into ours...Thank you for all the eye contact (we were third row right in front of you..)and Rickie, my heart goes out to your heart...I certainly felt your pain and hope that it was healing to be up there feeling our love for you. I was secretly hoping for 'Cycles' but trying not to, 'cause I didn't really think you'd play it, and I was so choked up, still am...Thank you for sharing your new song with us; I pray that you will find it in your heart to release the Largo show for download; and I can only hope we will be able to get in for the next installment of the continuing story of RLJ...
With Love,
Michael in Santa Cruz

i am not a gusher and have never written to an artist before, but i saw you on valentine's day (i've seen you half a dozen times) and feel so rich and grateful for what you offered us.

i have always loved you music and poetry, but this memoir/music form you explored and the nakedness you risked of your self and the joy you seemed to embrace meant more than i can describe.

at times i wanted you all to myself, and other times i wanted the whole world to experience you. my husband of 15 yrs and i thought it would be a great way to celebrate our anniversary. we were more right than we could have guessed.

thank you is woefully inadequate but all i can think of for now

Dear Rickie Lee: I'm glad you are back and hopefully releasing new material. I loved the Xmas songs, Thank you so much. I saw you in NYC during the La Rouge engagement and got to chat with your daughter for a bit outside after the show - - she was fantastic when she joined you for Falling UP - - perhaps she will sing on some of the new tracks too?

My suggestion is to just create the kind of music you always have - - surprising us with new and different twists on songs and ways to communicate.

One thing I would LOVE to see is if you and Van Morrison did something together, - What I might be a good idea is to contact Elvis Costellow about possibly appearing on his new show Spectacle in it's next season as I assume this season is all booked or completed, but who knows, if yo and Van could appear together on that show it would be a real treat for all your fans.

Okay - - thanks again for all you have given us - - I especially love the Sermon CD material - - and am looking forward to what you do next.

It's 1984 and I'm lying on my living room floor listening to a cassette a friend/love, cum lost love, brought over to my house. The song is It Must Be Love... The room is dark. I have a lover who is off playing a gig. He's the father of my daughter, but he's not the man who I lie beside on the floor. We lay listening...we don't say a word, we don't touch... My daughter at that time, 1 year old is now 25 - She used to go to sleep listening to you. I've never seen you live, but your music has been with me since that time. And I thank you.

Rickie I am a long time fan and I had this burst of inspiration to write you a poem after listening to "Magazine" last night at a friends house, who I would have never thought would have liked your music, but when we got to "Deep Space" and started singing the song together under our breaths, followed by sheer caterwauling of the coda, two idiots drunk as lords, and we had to stop the CD there just to kind of bask in it, I thought, I need to just start making copies of all of her CD's and leave them at like bus stops, coffee shops, libraries, etc; to let this next generation know who you are and how good you are. Please don't sue me, as I am broke, Here's my poem -

I would rub your feet
and make you corned beef
and hold you like you were an angel
which you are but
not so fragile as much as delicately fierce

I saw you in concert 3 times
you yelled at the band cuz they fucked something up
and I thought
how refreshing
no game face
no follow thru
GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER GUYS!
and I remembered the perfection of every one of your records then
and realized it wasn't a studio trick
it was you
demanding more, needing more
asking more of others, but also of yourself
you could hear it in your voice
the desire to be known
to be heard

I heard you
and I still do
you are my juke box fury
my lords face
my last chance texaco
cunt finger louie says hi
he never had a chance to say goodbye
but he misses you
just as I do
cuz i havent seen you for a while
i remember you and Lyle
swaying at Red Rocks and I snuck to the front
to really, really see you
Lyle aint so pretty
but you sure are
bless your strength Rickie
bless your complicated soul
you have made me laugh and cry as much as any good girlfriend has
great music is a treasure to be held like water in the hand and
you have an indelible sense of the craft and i thank whatever made you for doing so
please come back to Colorado so I can see you again
im 44 and my memories are fading, so I need new ones!
Thank you Rickie

Rickie,
I came to both Largo shows..brilliant, painful, sweet, charming, amazing and utterly you.

I am one of those songwriters who has followed your work since 1979.
I worked with a band who made me sing a couple of your songs until I said "I can't sing these, maybe one of the ballads?" Short lived band...aren't they all?

I intend to drag my other songwriters friends out when you are back at Largo. Hey, you inspired me to release a cd I've been sitting on for 5 years...but what will inspire me more is hearing yours.

Be well, stay well, and keep playing music that affects people...there is so little of it left.

My name isn't Prudence.

Dear Rickie,

I've been a fan from the start and love your style, feel your soul through your music and believe you just get better with time. Watching you perform is a rare and wonderful thing experience.

My wife and I have been to many concerts but sadly not one of yours. I hope you will book a concert in Chicago sometime soon.

A Summer concert with you along Lake Michigan in the evening would be a dream come true but we would be happy to have you anytime. I'm sure the city would love to have you too and I'm know you would have a great time. Please come and see us!

We wish you the best and hope you are feeling well.

With love and admiration,

Wow wow wow. The new album arrived today. I did what I needed to do, put the album on about 2 PM and listened to it all day. First time through, the sounds were strange. Some songs sounded familiar, some voices were strange. After a couple of trips through, things started to adhere. By this evening, the medley of sounds and songs are Rickie Lee Jones, once again kicking ass. Country sounds, Rickie sounds, brand new oldies, a little Detroit thrown in, just a whole new chapter in this life of God's creative expression. Way you go, gal. (I still think the best version of Bonfires is the one you sang to me in Fall River...got that one on tape.) Thanks again. It's all soooo good.

But, your music will always remain close in my heart as you have influenced many a happy introspective moment over my 50 year old life starting in the teens.
